Neveah Binks, Hero or regular girl?
You can be a hero and still have a life
By: Kristina Riddle, Advice Columnist
LONDON-[Now when I met Neveah my first thoughts were, how am I going to pull off writing an article, and of course I hope she does not think I am dumb. Then seeing the young woman walking toward me I had to wonder just how old she was, so of course that was my first question. In my own timid and strange way I asked her, and she was very polite and answered that she is 13 and soon to be 14.Hold the presses! She is not even 14 and left school to work for the ministry? I guess I can’t be too much a a sour bud since I too left at prematurely. However my landing a job here at the prophet was not as easy as it seemed. Writing about my personal life was hard and scary but now I make a good life from it. My opinions and advice are what keeps me going, I do practice what I preach.
Back to the point, I really enjoyed spending time with Neveah and learning more about her. While I know proper writing styles denote me to call her Miss Binks, it seems too impersonal for her, and Neavah was so much smoother to say a hundred times when reading, right? So I went on to ask the hard question next, and that was of course about the epic battle. We all have the cliff notes version in her back pocket, but here is what Neveah said about what she felt about it."Well I really don’t know what i was feeling; I know I was scared, and nervous, but I never thought I would win not in a million years. Jack made sure that it wasn't where most people could just wonder up and watch so that they couldn't get hurt. The people that were there they did help as much as they could, but in the end their power wasn't enough, it had to come from the heart to win; and well he nearly killed me, but I’m alive and well thanks to the nurses at St Mungos, and of course Adam Caven"
That was not all she said either, how did the final pages turn in her favor? What was the reason she was the only one to win? It came down to powers but more of wit and smarts I believe."As to what really happened it was a close fight even with what [little] help I had, but most of the others were working to protect me from his little minions that he had, that kept attacking me and I couldn't defend myself from all sides. What killed him and his minions was an earthquake, that would place an entire city underwater and separate land from land, and a rock slide,
Neeah had a moment of awakening, when she was aided somehow by someone or something she still does not know. However when she felt this new aid that allowed her to create a new type of mud that locked Flamejelous in, she knew that she would win.
Now that we have the basics down it was time to learn more about her. This was a hard task for the girl who was not too social in school. I asked her what made her feel like she could not be a part of the school, and learn with the other students, she told me more about herself then I had previously thought. Grwoing up she did not know about magic the way a lot of us do. Learning to be an animagus at such an early age even saved her from being lost in Alaska.
“It was because I was trying to protect the school, and some kids were trying to help me, I kept yelling at them to leave that it wasn't safe, this was the first attack on the school with Flamjelous, when he was trying to get to me.”
Neveah seems to have gone through a lot and I personally know why she left the school. It is no place for someone like her, she is advanced, and mature beyond her years, and with her ability of the earth she learns differently then others. While I still have my beliefs on magic I recognize that magic changes things, some for the better and some for the worse.
Turns out that she was smarter then yours truly, part of the deal is that Neveah will still take a class at the school. She will be something like a part time student; who would have thought Hogwarts would be having part time students? It is about time they move with the real world right? There are so many students in that school that are beyond their year, it is a first step to a good move I think.
So into work life, I had to get the details of what her job would be. Of course there are the big cases that they all work on, but what is her everyday going to be? She works under Felecia Flanders, a woman with the ministry for 20 years. She has closed cases of many misused muggle artifacts. The raid of 99 was a huge success, finding so many misguided items that filled the offices for months.
Currently she is not assigned any one case, rather working with first time offenders of the misuse of magic laws. However I predict to see more from her, as she is smart, powerful and above all a pleasure to speak with. I would like to thank Neveah for her time, and hope that I have grasped a little bit of who she is in this article. While I am not sure if I will be following up on being a reporter rather then an advice columnist you are sure to see me here, every week to answer your questions.
